Point to Point installation
Point to Point is an installation made for the exhibition Phishing the Landscape at Hjalteyri, North Iceland. The inspirations for the installation Point to Point are images from several expeditions with earth scientists who are exploring volcanic eruptions in glaciers. The installation makes use of material used in the expeditions (straps) and video documentation, shot on location.
In a former herring factory at Hjalteyri in North Iceland the straps are used to connect buildings. The former smokestack 70 meters away is strapped to the factory building. This 140 meters of straps in the air functions like a measuring tape, overtaking an open space in the air. The movement in the structure creates a powerful visual game and makes an ominous sound when the wind tries to blow the straps away. The straps makes there way into the factory building where the straps are stretched through the spacious architecture, creating an independent image, an abstract microcosm within the installation, the totality of the space.
Phishing the Landscape is an exhibition and experimental publication curated by Berlin-based artists Clementine Roy & Catriona Shaw and featuring positions by 10 international artists.
