The focus on mending is directly related to the observations of how a tradition is maintained, eradicated or preserved.
The artifacts vary from a wheelbarrow to a tent, via a plastic bucket, chair, clothes, facecloth, potholders, bed linen and underwear. All the artifacts are repaired with thread.
Most of the artifacts are collected in Iceland but some are from Azerbaijan where I have previously spent time. Over the past decades I have conducted research and gathered material relating to traditions of fabric mending. In that research I have focused on how tradition and history are maintained and re-invented by individuals and regimes alike.
